Hunting Gear: What You Need To Make Your Trip A Success
Hunting can be a very dangerous sport that is accompanied by risks and chances. It also requires you to have precision and courage in order for it to be a success. It is an outdoor sport that requires you to be in the right clothing with the right equipment. Since you’ll never know what you’ll get from the outdoors, it would be best to expect the unexpected by having the right hunting gear with you.
Hunting Gear Variations
Deciding on what type of hunting gear you should bring along with you will largely depend on the place you are going to, the season that you are taking the trip, and the different weather conditions you are expecting to experience. It would be better if you make a checklist of the different hunting gear that you should bring to make your trip a success.
Basically, you can categorize your hunting gear into six categories: guns and ammo, first aid kit, toiletries, survival gear, camping gear, and papers.
Papers
When you go hunting, this doesn’t mean that you will be going back to the nomadic hunting lifestyle of your ancestors. It is essential for you to bring your wallet with all the proper ID’s. You also need your hunting permits/tags, cash and credit cards, and keys. Documents, like camping permits/tags, campfire permits, hunting regulations, and trespass permission slips are also important.
These papers are all proof that you are hunting on a legal basis, so that, just in case you get into any kind of trouble, you have papers to show that you have a permit to be hunting in that area.
Camping Gear
As for your camping gear, you will generally need sleeping bags, mats, pillows, tents, duct tape, rags, ground cloth, rubber gloves, and ropes. Cooking utensils, like knives and a can opener, and eating utensils, like paper plates and plastic spoons and forks, are also important. You wouldn’t want to pollute Mother Nature, so you should bring trash bags too.
Survival Gear
For emergency purposes, you should bring survival gear too. Hunting equipment for survival include such items as flare guns, Chem-lites, Bic Lighters, emergency space blankets, waterproof matches, a compass, two-way radios with chargers, bear repellant, water filters or tablets, signal mirrors, and cell phones with cigarette lighter cords.
It would also be best if you know the location of the nearest medical help you can get, just in case there happens to be an accident.
Toiletries
Toiletries? —Yes, you still have to be clean when you go hunting. That’s why essentials like soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste should not be forgotten. You should also include in your hunting gear, toilet paper and baby wipes. Foot powder, hand lotion and nail clippers can also prove useful.
First Aid Kit
When you go hunting, there is always the chance that you might experience minor medical conditions that can be treated by having the right gear in your first aid kit. You should bring aspirin and antacids for sudden stomach problems, headaches, and fevers. If you are going to a hot place, then you should bring sunscreen too.
Other things that you should bring are poison ivy cream, triangular badges, band-aids, razor blades, sterile gauze bandages, medical tape, cotton swabs, scissors, alcohol, needle and silk floss thread, laxatives, first aid guidebooks, and a thermometer.
Guns And Ammo
Of course, lastly you have your guns and ammo. This category includes your rifle/shotgun, ammo, shotgun chokes, pistol & holster, camo for gun, sandpaper, cleaning kits for your guns, target boards, a stapler, shooting stick, boresight, gun vise and range book.
With this basic hunting gear, you should have the essentials of what you need to make your hunting trip a success!
